Our Veggie-Powered Bus

We go through a lot of fuel getting our cafe from place to place. We get around 8 to 9 miles to the gallon, which can get very pricey—not to mention the black puffs of smoke that burp out of the back fogging up that blue sky. So, we did some research. We read a book about the man who invented the motor on our bus; his name was Rudolph Diesel. When he invented this motor, he ran it off of peanut oil and designed it to run on different varieties of veggie oil. He wanted a way for farmers to grow thier own fuel and foresaw the depleting reserves of fossil fuels to come.

We have a SVO (Straight Veggie Oil) System on our bus. We use old oil from resturaunts. With some help from a professional and a lot of hard work, we now run on recycled veggie oil. It’s fun, it smells good, it’s more earth friendly than a tiny hybrid, and no one is fighting a war over it in a desert some where. All good stuff in our book.
